Daniel Hawkins is a seasoned MedTech entrepreneur, executive, inventor and board member with more than three decades of experience building and commercializing category-defining medical technologies. Daniel is the founder of Shockwave Medical, where he invented Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) and served as CEO, leading the company through its formative years. He previously joined Intuitive Surgical as its sixth employee and helped drive initial market creation for the da Vinci surgical robot. He is also the founder and former CEO of Avail Medsystems, co-founder of Calibra Medical, and former CEO of Vista AI. Earlier in his career, Daniel held leadership roles at Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Endologix, Restore Medical and EnteroMedics. He currently serves on the boards of several early-stage MedTech companies. Daniel earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is a named inventor on more than 160 patents and patent applications and a three-time recipient of Goldman Sachs’ “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs” recognition.
